Queen IDIA was the Queen to Oba Ozolua and the mother of Esigie, the Oba (king) of the Benin Kingdom of Edo state in southern Nigeria, in West Africa, from 1504 to 1550.

Queen Idia, also known as Queen Mother, was a warrior who led many armies into battle. She aided her son, King/Oba Esigie, on his military campaigns and was known locally as “the only woman who went to war.” Her son and his people highly revered Queen Idia.

She was one of the best-known female soldiers ever from the Benin Kingdom. She was a fearless Army General who led the Armies of Benin in several successful battles. In SUMMARY, she played a significant role in the rise and reign of her son.
